Flea Market at 8D Dempsey Hill Carpark
The weekend is over, and so is the flea market. It was a nice (since it was my first time selling stuff at a flea market) but tiring experience. A lot of rummaging, packing and preparation has to be done for a flea market. Also, we had to wake up in the morning and take a cab there because of the suitcases, a box and clothes stand and also because we don’t own a car and renting one for 2days is ridiculously expensive!
The rent for both days was S$100 [for a 1m x 1m (approx.) table], cab fare there on the first day and back on the 2nd day adds up to 20plus – No. We didn’t sleep there overnight, we left our stuff there and took a bus home. After calculation, Aster and I made a total of 30+ (after deducting the lunch for both days and travel expenses). As you can see, it’s totally not worth it, but it just seems kinda fun selling your stuff in a flea market. But if you really want better profits, sell them on ebay.
Oh! By the way, it rained for a short while on Sunday, and we were relieved that the organisers had plastic covers prepared. As we were situated at a corner of the shelter, the rain was dripping and blowing onto our stuff, so the covers really did help a lot. But even if our stuff getting wet isn’t an issue, the rain would have prevented patrons, so we were glad that it just lasted a while, though the sun was bright and shiny right after that, which caused an outdoor sauna in the carpark.
With all that being said, flea markets can be fun but tiring, but the most important factors you have to take into consideration are: price of rent, location (easily accesible to patrons), outdoor or indoor (for indoors, no worries for rain, probably just the space constraints), number of stalls (the more the merrier) and the organiser (good organisers have good marketing which attracts more).
